To this day, Chernobyl is still undergoing decontamination and decommissioning. It is a ghost town and a restricted area, as radioactive levels are still very high. Their hope is that one day, it will be livable again.

Oil spills have been a great threat in lives of many including the plants and animals around the area. This environmental disaster can cause a lot of damage and leaves the place useless in years. Seeing how this disaster affects the animals, many volunteers could not just sit back and watch how fishes, birds and other animals die. Environmental remediation of the oil spill is difficult and depends on many factors such as the type of oil spilled as well as the type of water affected and its temperature. There are a lot of environmental services used in cleaning up the oil spill.

· Bioremediation – the method which uses microorganisms or biological agents to breakdown or completely removes the oil.

· Controlled Burning – this is the method that needs to be done properly to reduce the amount of water but can also cause air pollution and requires to be done in low wind.
· Dispersants – this method mobilizes the oil but the problem is that it can cause a great damage in the corals. It is proven that dispersants are great toxic to corals.
· Dredging – this method is only applied to oils denser that water.
· Skimming – this method can only be done in calm water.
· Solidifying- this method solidifies oil by transforming it from liquid to semi-solid than can visibly float in the water. Another thing that is great about this method is that it is not toxic to aquatic.
· Vacuum plus Centrifuge – this method uses vacuum to suck up oils and centrifuge separates oil from water. After the centrifuge is done pure oil goes to the tanker and water returns to the sea with just a small amount of oil left.
All of these are great help remediating the oil that spilled in the sea and retaining the habitat of all creatures. These spills may have done great damage but we had lessened the occurrence of the damage and prevented more creatures to die through the environmental remediation. We all ought to understand that oil spill is a release of toxic chemicals in the environment due to human activity to make us realize what we should do to prevent this to happen.
One thing we can do is proper waste disposal especially to the factories and ships as well. Our single mistake can lead to a great damage not only in us humans but in all living things. We cannot just watch fishes to die and float in the sea, just keeping it’s bad smell and letting this cause dehydration and other epidemic diseases in us humans. Birds are also part of our food chain and without them this world will never be the same. Simple ways is what we all need now and following the rules and regulations should be done.
